Terminology
AbiWord's graphic interface is based on elements from Windows and Linux. Because of this, it is strongly recommended
to use a mouse in order to increase the ease of use of AbiWord. The mouse appears on the screen as a pointer.
Depending on the pointers position, it will appear in several different forms:
Here are the various possible actions of the mouse:

Moving the cursor
The cursor is a small vertical line, |which appears on the document.
To move it using the mouse:
Left click on the screen where you wish to move the cursor to.

Selecting text or an object
To format the document it is often necessary to select parts of it.
Here is how to select using the mouse:
- A word:
- Point at the beginning of the word, then drag it over to the end of the word; or
- Double click on the word.
- A line:
- Point to the beginning of the line, then drag it over to the end of the line; or
- Click in the margin to the left of the line.
- A paragraph:
- Point at the beginning of the paragraph and drag the mouse pointer to the end of the paragraph or
- Double click in the margin.
- Several lines:
- Point at the beginning of the first line then drag the pointer to the end of the last line.
- An object (an image)
- Click on the object (not available in the latest version of AbiWord)
- The whole document:
- Go to Edit on the menu and click "Select all"
