CIFS at the U

CIFS Implementations

A variety of CIFS implementations are used at the U, including:
  • Microsoft
  • PathWorks
  • Samba
  • TotalNet
  • Others?
CIFS servers are installed to support Windows workstations. There are no known examples of CIFS in use in non-Windows environments at the U.

In general, CIFS is used with Windows, AppleTalk is used with Macintoshes, and NFS is used with Unix. Again, NetWare proves the exception in that it is implemented in place of CIFS, or where a variety of system types must be supported.
